On Saturday March 28th the Junior squash section ran its annual Easter Blitz. The 13 juniors attending the 4-5 section were split into appropriate groups of similar standard and each given a court to play out their matches.
Court-3 had 6 of our very young Juniors under the watchful eye of Coach Cyril – they all participated in some great fun activities and had a ball – with Aisling Darby winning player of the week and Ellen Doherty wining the overall Easter Blitz.
Court-2 had Colm, Evan and Cian playing out some very close matches that ended with Colm & Cian drawing, forcing Coach Bryan to arrange a playoff match which Colm won to take the honours.
Court-1 was taken up by the girls and again had some very good matches, all the girls displaying great sportsmanship and enjoying the occasion, with Jo-Ann and Katie both drawing in 1st positon. Junior Officer Mairead was on hand throughout to add her usual touch of magic and everyone in attendance received an Easter Egg. The 5-6 section had 7 Juniors competing and Coach Cyril and Bryan decided to mix everyone together in the one blitz – so the newer players got the opportunity to go up against some of the more experienced HJ Juniors that recently took part in the Junior Interpros representing Munster. Jack Doherty was in top form, displaying accurate lob serves and he topped the box with Caoimhe Nolan coming in a close 2nd. Again Mairead had Easter eggs for all in attendance. Well done to all the juniors who took part in the blitz! Next up – our annual away trip on Saturday April 18th – this year we’re heading to the Limerick Lawn Squash courts.
