Leo O'Brien - Highfield Squash

Leo O'Brien

Leo O'Brien was a member in Highfield in the 1980's and as a teen played league squash for the club and also played on Munster teams. He emigrated to England in pursuit of a squash career and while there his standard rose considerably becoming a fine player.

He moved to France in adulthood where he married and had two daughters. He ran various businesses and continued his interest in squash though not at such a 'serious' level.

His sudden death was, of course, a great shock to his family and many friends. This event is organised by Eddie Murphy - hence the Silversprings venue - who was a close friend to Leo throughout his life. He is remembered by many of his squash friends some of whom will be able to play in this event. The corresponsing tournament was in France last season. Irish International Derek Ryan was a long time friend of Leo's and he will play in the event as will 13 French players one a current O40 International.

As Highfield was Leo's hometown club and where he learned his squash we would hope that current members would consider playing in the tournament or, failing that, might consider making a small donation in lieu of entry fees. All of the proceeds will go to an education fund for the benefit of Leo's children.
